Accessibility

Last updated October 4, 2026

HomelandCanada is for everyone preparing for the citizenship test, including people who use screen readers, keyboards, magnification or other assistive technology. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA.

What we do

  • Clear headings, landmarks and labels on every page.
  • Everything works with a keyboard. In quizzes, press 1–4 to answer and Enter to go on.
  • Visible focus outlines, and enough colour contrast in both light and dark mode.
  • Right and wrong answers are shown with icons and words, not colour alone.
  • Text can be enlarged in the browser or in Settings.
  • Animation is reduced when your device asks for reduced motion.
  • Maps and diagrams have a text or list version of the same information.
  • Every release is checked with automated accessibility tests on phone and desktop.

Known limitations

The Discover Canada PDFis the government's own file, and its accessibility is outside our control. The same content is covered in our lessons, and the official HTML version is on canada.ca. Automated tests can't catch everything, so some problems may remain.
